Good design has no date, is Mary Helen Prattes philosophy. Her interior and product designs are described as understated and timeless. The passion she has for design is exemplified in her ability to transform conventional materials into a classic. Ms. Prattes education has contributed to her versatile design vocabulary. After completing her Master of Fine Arts degree in 3 Dimensional Design and a Bachelor Degree in Graphic Design, she was awarded a Rotary Graduate Fellowship and studied furniture design at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Knste Stuttgart. Her life of design has taken her on many journeys. She has practiced interior architecture for over 25 years, and was a design Professor at the University of Texas for 16 years. This exposure has given her much insight in the furniture design. Recognizing a void in the furniture industry for finely crafted metal products, she founded EKITTA in 1991, an interior furnishings company with classic, enduring designs. She has developed furniture, lighting and other interior products for American manufacturers, which have received many awards such as Best of NEOCON and the IIDA Distinguished Merit Award. Due to her contributions and recognitions in the profession of interior design, she was made a Fellow Member of the International Interior Design Association.
